Did you know…. that many believe that nail polish began it’s life in China, made from a combination of beeswax, egg whites, gelatine, vegetable dyes, and gum. The Chinese applied the substance and left it to sit for several hours. The result would be a pink finish to their nails.
And, in ancient China, painting your fingernails began as early as circa 3000 BCE. It was a way to establish social class!
If you were royalty, you were allowed to wear gold or silver, but if you were below royalty, in a lower class, you were forbidden to wear bright colors on your nails.
The Egyptians and Indians also painted their nails (early nail art????) by using orange dye from the henna plant. Gold and silver also symbolized royalty but that changed at a later date. Red as well as black became the symbol of the royals!
